YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Answers to the legal questions we hear most.
What should I do if I’m pulled over for DUI?
Stay calm, keep your hands visible, and follow basic instructions. You have the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney — use them. Don’t volunteer information, and don’t guess if you don’t know something.
Will I lose my license if I’m charged with DUI in Georgia?
Not automatically — but you only have 30 days to request a hearing or ignition interlock permit through DDS. If you don’t act in time, your license could be suspended before your first court date.
Should I talk to the police without a lawyer?
No. Even if you haven’t been arrested, anything you say can be used against you. Always ask for an attorney before answering questions about any criminal investigation.
What happens after I'm arrested in Georgia?
You’ll be booked, fingerprinted, and held for a first appearance or bond hearing. After that, your case moves through arraignment, motion hearings, and potentially trial. The earlier a defense attorney gets involved, the better.
Do I need a lawyer for a misdemeanor charge?
Yes. Misdemeanors can still result in jail time, probation, license suspension, and a permanent record. A lawyer can often reduce the charge or get it dismissed — and protect your future.
How much does it cost to hire an attorney?
It depends on the complexity of the case, the court involved, and how much time it will take. We offer consultations so you know your options up front — and we’ll always be transparent about fees.
Which areas do you serve in Southwest Georgia?
